What is FIRELITE?

FIRELITE is a transparent crystallised super heat resistant glass 5mm thick developed by Nippon Electric Glass Co. Ltd of Japan.  Unlike the production of normal soda lime glass, the FIRELITE raw material is mixed with special ingredients to precipitate crystals.  Extremely high temperatures are required to melt the raw materials to produce FIRELITE.  The FIRELITE sheet is heated and calcinated and becomes crystallised by using a process similar to that for production of ceramic ware.

The C.S.I.R.O. Fire Science Centre in Sydney has given FIRELITE an accredited fire rating of 3 hours, based on the requirements of the AS 1530 Part 4 Code.

Because of the unique features of FIRELITE, it offers Architects, Designers and Fire Rated Window Manufacturers a wide range of design applications using an approved framing system.
